The Human-Machine Interaction and Control Lab (THinC)

The Human-Machine Interaction and Control (THinC) Lab is housed in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. We are also an active member of the North Carolina Battery Complexity, Autonomous Vehicle and Electrification (BATT CAVE) Research Center at UNC Charlotte, working at the forefront of next-generation mobility and intelligent systems.

Our research focuses on designing and understanding the future of shared human–machine systems, with applications in autonomous vehicles, electrified transportation and intelligent control.

Research at THinC Lab spans three core areas:

Developing advanced control algorithms for partially to fully autonomous systems
Designing intuitive and effective human–machine interfaces
Studying human behavior and decision-making within shared control frameworks
