Ryan A. Rasanen, Ph.D.
Dr. Ryan A. Rasanen is interested in all aspects of geotechnical earthquake engineering to include paleoseismology, soil liquefaction, landslides, seismic hazard analysis,and post-earthquake reconnaissance. He is also interested in studying natural hazards using machine learning, satellite remote sensing data and non-invasive seismic techniques.
His contributions have been recognized with several awards, including two second place finishes at the 2020 and 2022 Geo-Congress National Poster Competitions. He was also a recipient of the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for his research unraveling seismic hazard enigmas in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. He has a diverse background in geotechnical industry experience, having worked as both a consultant and a government employee for the Washington State Department of Transportation. More recently, he is updating the liquefaction section of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications Manual as part of the AASHTO Technical Committee on Soil Structures.
