Program Overview

At UNC Charlotte, our mission is to graduate innovative, world-class engineers. But we can’t do it without you.

Industry partners are critical to our success and play an integral role in the development of high quality engineering graduates.

The W.S. Lee College of Engineering’s Senior Design Program brings together students and industrial partners in a collaborative research environment. As they tackle real-world engineering projects, the students and their industry supporters are afforded unlimited possibilities for learning and achievement. Our engineering and engineering technology students develop critical skills while working in multi-disciplinary teams tackling problems in Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial and Systems, and Mechanical engineering technologies.

A faculty advisor for each team provides the right balance of instruction and coaching-enabling students to learn by doing.
Resources
Students have access to state-of-the-art design tools, advanced fabrication facilities and specialized labs that support every stage of the engineering process.
Timing
Projects begin in fall and spring, with each team dedicating two semesters, about 250 hours per student, to complete their work.
Coursework
Teams receive focused instruction in project management, design principles, intellectual property and professional communication to support their technical and professional success.

NCMEP Partner

The Industrial Solutions Lab is proud to be a partner company of the NC Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP). If you are a small company and would like to learn more, please contact Jim Hartman.

NCMEP is a network of eight North Carolina organizations that provide manufacturing extension services that enhance the productivity, innovative capacity and technological performance of North Carolina-based manufacturing firms. NCMEP also works to strengthen the global competitiveness of small- and medium-sized manufacturers.

NCMEP partners provide technology-based resources and expertise to improve, promote and connect industry through experts and tools in workplace safety, process optimization, business growth, innovation, sustainability, energy, quality systems, product design, testing and development, and workforce training and development.

ISL utilizes NCMEP resources to subsidize small company participation in the UNC Charlotte William States Lee College of Engineering Senior Design Program. This subsidy helps businesses who could otherwise not be able to financially support a Senior Design Project, to be able to participate in Senior Design.

Senior Design Committee Members

The Senior Design Committee brings together faculty leaders from across the William States Lee College of Engineering to guide and strengthen the Senior Design Program at UNC Charlotte. Representing multiple engineering disciplines, these members provide oversight, mentorship and strategic direction to ensure every project meets high academic and industry standards. They help shape one of the college’s most impactful, hands-on learning experiences.
