Department Advisors
Once you declare your major, your department’s advising team becomes your primary resource for course planning, degree requirements and academic decisions. Department advisors specialize in your program and understand the specific requirements, prerequisite sequences and graduation pathways for your major. Each department manages its own advising office hours, appointment scheduling and procedures.
Peer Advisors
Peer advisors are upper-level engineering students trained to answer questions about courses, campus resources, time management and navigating your first year. They're not your formal academic advisors — they can't register you for courses or make official decisions about your academic plan — but they can help you figure out which professors to take, what study strategies work for specific courses and how to balance coursework with campus involvement. Peer advisors offer drop-in hours and are available to answer quick questions about student life, course selection and adjusting to engineering coursework.
Peer Assisted Learning (PAL)
The Peer Assisted Learning program’s mission is to offer students additional academic group study support led by Peer Leaders, current students who have completed the course successfully. PAL sessions are facilitated by peer leaders who have been trained to guide students and apply course concepts through fun and collaborative activities that provide more practice in Charlotte’s most challenging courses.
